This season, mezzo-soprano Tamara Mumford returns to the Metropolitan Opera as Le Pélerin in a new production of L'Amour de Loin by Kaija Saariaho which will also be shown in movie theaters around the world as part of the MET: LIVE INI HD series. Ms. Mumford will reprise the role of Martha in John Adams' Gospel According to the Other Mary at the San Francisco Symphony and in a debut performance with the Berlin Philharmonic. Also this season Ms. Mumford will tour with Gustavo Dudamel and the Simón Bolivar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela in Beethoven's 9th Symphony with performances in Barcelona, Madrid, Hamburg and Vienna. She also makes debuts with Boston Symphony Orchestra and San Diego Symphony and returns to the New York Philharmonic in Wagner's Das Rheingold conducted by Alan Gilbert.

A graduate of the Metropolitan Opera's Lindemann Young Artist Development Program, Ms. Mumford made her debut there at age 23 as Laura in Luisa Miller, and has since appeared in more than 150 performances with the company. Some of which include Smeaton in the new production of Anna Bolena, and in productions of Rigoletto, Ariadne auf Naxos, Il Trittico, Parsifal, Idomeneo, Cavalleria Rusticana, Nixon in China, The Queen of Spades, the complete Ring Cycle, The Magic Flute, A Midsummer Night's Dream and Wozzeck. Other recent opera engagements have included the title roles in the American premiere of Henze's Phaedra and The Rape of Lucretia as well as the role of Nica in the world premiere of Yardbird, a chamber opera about the life of jazz legend Charlie Parker, at Opera Philadelphia, Carmen at Crested Butte Opera, Marta in Iolanta at Dallas Opera, the title role in Dido and Aeneas at the Glimmerglass Festival, Ottavia in L'incoronazione di Poppea at the Glyndebourne Opera Festival and the BBC Proms, Arsace in the American Premiere of Aureliano in Palmira and Orsini in Lucrezia Borgia at the Caramoor Festival, Isabella in L'Italiana in Algeri at Palm Beach Opera, the title role in The Rape of Lucretia at the Castleton Festival, and Principessa in Suor Angelica and Ciesca in Gianni Schicchi with the Orchestra Sinfonica Giuseppe Verdi di Milano.

An active concert performer, Ms. Mumford recentently appeared with Gustavo Dudamel and the LA Philharmonic in US and European tour of the world premiere of John Adam's oratorio, The Gospel According to the Other Mary. She toured with them again last season as the soloist in Mahler's 3rd Symphony. Ms. Mumford has also appeared with the New York Philharmonic, San Francisco Symphony, Seattle Symphony, Oregon Symphony, Santa Barbara Symphony, Utah Symphony, Milwaukee Symphony, Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestras and at the Hollywood Bowl and the Ravinia, Tanglewood, Grand Teton, Britt and La Jolla Summer Music Festivals. Other recent concert appearances have included collaborations with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, James Levine and the Met CHamber Ensemble in Zankel Hall, Desert Song Festival in Tucson, AZ, and appearances in the Musicians from Marlboro's Summer Festivals and US tours.

On DVD, Ms. Mumford can be seen in the MET: LIVE IN HD series broadcasts of Anna Bolena, Das Rheingold, Gotterdämmerung, The Magic Flute, Nixon in China, Manon Lescaut, and Il Trittico. Her portrayal of Ottavia in Robert Carsen's production of L'Incoronazione di Poppea at Glyndebourne is captured on the Decca label. Ms. Mumford recently recorded Handel's Messiah with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Bryn Terfel, Sonya Yoncheva and Rolando Villazon. Other CD recordings include The Gospel According to the Other Mary with Gustavo Dudamel and the LA Philharmonic (Deutsche Grammophon), Beethoven's Cantata on the Death of Emperor Joseph II with Michael Tilson Thomas and the San Francisco Symphony (Avie), the Grammy Award nominated recording of Milhaud's L'Orestie d'Eschyle (Naxos) and a collaboration with several singers and Yale University to record the complete songs of Charles Ives (Naxos).
